Ron Uchman’s Hawthorne analysis for Sunday, November 14th

Race 1

This race was scheduled for turf but after all the rain we got on Thursday, can’t believe that it won’t be switched to the main track. So, I’m picking a main-track horse. 8-PRINCESS RENEE was in good form at Canterbury and ran a terrific race in her local debut. Coming on late in that sprint to capture second place. But she has been better going long. Stretches back out for this. She won her last two route races in Minnesota, both on the main track. She was claimed from her Hawthorne debut and moves into another talented barn. Guessing she’ll come along and take them late. 4-RONAN has a poor record overall, she’s 0 for 16 here, but her recent races haven’t been bad. She finished behind top choice in last but think she’s another that could benefit from the extra real estate of this race. An off track might enhance her chances. 3-NOFANSINTHESTANDS won her last start on the lawn but just missed in her previous race on dirt. Stablemate of top choice is a route specialist. She’s able to run well on or off the pace. Appears to be a top contender.

Race 2

3-LADY MAGNA is quick enough to go for the lead but think she’ll be tracking the pace in this event. She had been displaying good speed at Arlington but she was good at running from off the pace here in the past and this field has a number of runners that just seem a little quicker than she. 6-GO STORMIN GIRL beat a bit easier by eight in last, leading every step of the way. There’s a good chance that she’ll be on the lead quickly again today but there might be enough other speed in here to soften her up a little, maybe enough to let top choice by late. 4-SHOWIT has been good on this track; winning two of her seven local races and finishing second three times. She was claimed from last and moves into a barn that often wins with their first-time claims.

Race 3

Like the first, I expect this race to be moved to the main track. 8-QUEEN’S MISSION might be the quickest of these. She tired badly in her local debut but was claimed from that race and has had two terrific drills since. The cutback in distance works in her favor. Might never look back. 9-LILY’S WOOFY might be tough to beat. Trained by Wayne Catalano (congrats on the Breeders’ Cup victory), this filly is two-for-two on this track, wiring both local fields she faced. She’s likely to try for the lead. Could be extra tough if she gets there first. 1-GHAALEB’S APPEAL is capable of running well on or off the pace but it’s her ability to close that makes her dangerous here. Plus, she is bred to like and showed that she loves off tracks; just in case we don’t have a fast surface by race time.

Race 4

9-SHEZZ KOLDAZICE is far from a strong choice. However, she just finished second in a race containing many of these rivals and, although she wasn’t gaining late, she lost ground slower than the rest of them which might be an important factor at this longer distance. 6-HEY MA finished right behind top choice in last but she did lose ground faster. On the other hand, she owns better speed and could be racing prominently throughout. 1-IMPULSUS finished far back in all of her starts but she is dropping out of maiden specials and she’s going to be racing with Lasix for the first time.

Race 5

This will be 4-DIDDLEY’s first route race in two and a half years. He did win that race BTW. He owns good speed and utilizes the rider that will be able to coax every bit out of him. An abundance of other speed in here could compromise his chances if a speed duel develops but believe there’s a legitimate chance for him to wire the field. 6-JOEY B seems quite a bit slower than many in here but, as the only real closer in the race, he could be the recipient of an ideal pace ahead of him. 5-DEANO didn’t appear to handle the off track in last and he was probably in a bit too deep in his previous start but this could be his spot. He’s not as fast as some in here but he should be in striking position from the start and he could be the first to run last all the tiring speed.

Race 6

6-NYOMAN might be in a little deep but this veteran runner will get more than enough pace ahead of him and he’s back at his favorite distance on his favorite racetrack. Might be able to run by late. 7-PITAMAN might be the best of the speed. He tired badly versus better in his first two starts of the meet but he might be able to leave the rest behind at this level. 4-WILL KNOWS is a versatile runner capable of running well on or off the pace. He finished second in last at this level after showing little in his meet debut versus better.

Race 7

1-TWIRLING ROSES could earn his fourth victory in a row. He is moving up in class but he’s a defined sprinter and those he’s meeting that are also in good form are turning back in distance. He might not be the quickest member of this field but he’s never going to be far back and he just might be able to edge by late. 3-TWO WORLDS sports some of the highest speed figures of the field. He just finished third at a similar level, though that race was around two turns. He is turning back in distance for this. We’ll see. 6-LT. JUNIOR GRADE certainly figures. Winner of two of last three will likely be tracking the pace in this race. He’s been finishing his races full of run so the extra distance of this race could work in his favor. 2-THROWN FOR A LOUPE finished far back at this level in his local debut but that race was around two turns and he’s primarily a sprinter. Note that he popped a bullet drill since that last start. Expect far better with the turn back in distance.

Race 8

9-GO FOR SHERRIE never recovered after stumbling at the start of last when shipped to Churchill to meet better but he beat better than these in his previous start here and he has been victorious in six of his 16 races this year. He won three of five at this distance. Good speed will have him racing on or near the lead throughout. 7-ONE WAY HOME is another in the midst of a great year. Winner of last scored his fourth win of the year. He loves the front end. Might be there all the way. 4-PISTOL BOX will be coming late. There’s plenty of pace to set up for his closing move. Could fly by them all.

Race 9

8-RIPE ATTACK is capable of running well on or off the pace but think he’ll be going right for the lad in this spot since there is so little other speed. He ran well in his two starts this meet and has a history of doing well here. However, he does tend to run out of gas late. Might do that again. 3-HIGH HERO tired on an off track in last but he did finish second at this level in his previous start. Expect him to bounce back and be more competitive in this one. 6-RENEGADE BOB might fit in this wide-open field. He’s dropping to a far better level. He only finished fifth the last time he took on rivals like these but expect him to do better today.
