Ron Uchman’s Hawthorne analysis for Sunday, November 7th

Race 1

1-BLARNEY GIRL drops back in for a tag. She ran well in both turf starts, the first at Ellis against rivals similar to these, and against maiden specials at Arlington last time out. She seems plagued by layoffs in her young career but she did have three useful drills since her last race in September. Should be a major player. 2-MISS HIGH MIGHTY will certainly go to the early lead. She displayed good speed in all of her starts, all sprints, but tired late. Might be able to relax on the front end with the stretch in distance and take it all the way. 6-PERSEVERING drops to meet her easiest field yet. She didn’t handle the “good” turf or the outside post in last but she did finish second in a tougher race than this in her prior start.

Race 2

7-TOM’S LAST GENERAL has been running well since getting claimed by this barn earlier this year and he had ben in good form prior to the claim. However, he’s been meeting better since the claim. Drops into an easier spot. He’s had only the one win in 39 races and he often met even easier than these but this does look like the right spot. 1-MAXIMILIANO hasn’t shown a thing since his maiden victory at Keeneland in 2019 but he has been racing over his head ever since. Drops and stretches out. Should display better speed at this level. Could awaken. 5-LONESOME DREAM only split the field in his first start of the meet. He was racing at this level and distance. However, he was also making his first start in nearly two months. Should benefit from that tightener and be more effective today.

Race 3

1-SENSE OF SELF is back on the right surface. She only managed to split the field in her first start of the meet but that race was against better company and moved to the main track. She had two wins and two seconds in her last four turf races at this level. She’s going to come after the early leaders late. 5-GOOD MONGOLIA will try to wire the field. She barely lost her first start of the meet, on the main track. However, she finished behind top choice in four of their last five meetings. That could happen again. 8-WINDY CITY GIRL meets a bit easier. She displays speed at times but is probably best when waiting until the stretch to make her run.

Race 4

5-LARK tired in his debut but he was in against a bit tougher. Should improve from his trip and the drop. 3-IRISH TUFF really should be the one to win this, he’s been in good form, but this will be his 17th trip as a maiden so hard to inspire confidence. 9-HOUR NAP, with only two trips under his belt, still is eligible to improve. He wound up chasing the lone speed in last, his local debut, but still made a decent middle move. Could be better prepared for this trip.

Race 5

Going to go with newcomer 4-GREAT PLAINES for the upset. Much of his competition has been fading late in their races and seem vulnerable. Like the way this one has been working to make his career debut. Guess we’ll see if he’s better than his stablemate. 7-DEORA STORE, stablemate of top choice, was favored in his first start of the meet and made a bold bid to reach contention in midstretch but tired late, as he has done in most of his races. Wouldn’t surprise if he won this but wouldn’t surprise if he didn’t. 1-GOOD YEGG finished second at 35-1 in last, his first local trip. In the process, he beat all in this field that aren’t making their debut today. That was the first time in a long time that he showed much. Might be able to build on that effort and be competitive again today.

Race 6

7-ASTI SKY could be poised to upset. He’s still a maiden and he’s facing a field full of runners that have won at least one race but think he’s the fastest from the gate by far and speed has been very good lately. Guessing he’ll grab the lead and never look back. 2-MAJESTIC ATTACK seeks his third victory from four starts. He won both of his Illinois races in impressive fashion. This will be the first time, however, that he is racing against state breds. Could easily be the best of these. 8-FAST JACK and 4-WILDWOOD SICILIAN, stablemates from the Ritter/Becker barn were both sharp maiden winners at Fairmount. However, neither has raced for months and neither has raced beyond four and a half furlongs. Hard to gauge.

Race 7

1-APOLLO U ANYWHERE has been racing over her head for a while and finishing well back but she’s going to be tough to catch. She reeled off three straight wire-to-wire victories here this past spring. Could start another win streak right here. 7-SHOWIT has been in good form lately but might take it up a notch in this race. She was claimed from last by a barn that wins with a high percentage of their first-time claims. Can run them down. 8-KIANA’S LOVE just finished second vs. similar. That was her first start since June and only her second since April. She raced well here in the spring. Could be a top contender.

Race 8

1-BIG SPORT might be moving up in class but he’s been red hot all year. He’s likely to face plenty of competition for the front end but he has also been able to sit right off the pace and have enough left to wear down any that have been in front of him. 3-D YANK is one of the few in here that does his best running late, though he could conceivably go for the lead if that tactic was needed. He’s going to go off at a square price despite winning five times this year. Could be poised to surprise. 5-MISTER KELLY wired the field in last, his local debut, and was never seriously challenged for the lead. However, he is also comfortable coming from off the pace. Faces marginally better today but could be up to the challenge.

Race 9

3-SYMBOLIST could make it two in a row. He dueled for the lead for much of last but still had enough to pull away late. Meets many others with speed but he could once again put them away. 6-REDOUX is unbeaten since getting claimed by this barn. He’s moving up to meet better while making his first start on this track. We’ll see if he’s good enough. 4-WILD FOX ran well in both his races this meet but both were contested on an off track. Not sure he’ll hold that form on a fast surface.
