Ron Uchmanís Hawthorne analysis for Friday, October 8th

Race 1

1-QUEENíS MISSION ships in from Fairmount where she hasnít been facing many rivals but where she has been displaying very good speed. Sheís not the only speed in this field and she is meeting a bigger group than she has been facing but expect this sharp trainer to get off to a hot start. 5-TIZ SUSAN ANN certainly looks like the one to beat. Her speed figures are regularly among the highest in here and she has been facing better rivals for most of her career. She could reward these sharp connections for claiming her from last. 3-RONAN could be the best closer in a field that appears loaded with speed. She split the field in her last at Churchill and had been in good form downstate prior to that start. However, sheís had 14 starts at Hawthorne and failed to win any of them, though she has finished in the money 12 times.

Race 2

9-IRISH TUFF isnít a strong choice but he might be good enough to beat this group. Neophyte trainer Alexis Claire claimed this gelding for herself from his last start. Claire has started only 14 runners but she has won with three of them and she has been around good horsemen for a long time. Could have this runner ready for these. 3-KINGS STORY has been in awful form and heís had only one drill since his last start in August but he has been racing on whatever Arlington called its surface and often met better. He was far more effective in his two races here back in the spring. Heís plenty quick. Could improve with the move back to dirt. 2-NUMERO PRIMO finished in the money in three of his last five starts. Faces arguably the easiest field of his career. Probable favorite could graduate.

Race 3

4-OEUVRE could be tough. She had some trouble leaving the gate in last on turf but she didnít let that trouble distract her and she raced competitively throughout; only fading slightly late. Turns back in distance while heading back to the main track. This will be her first race on dirt but she is bred to handle any surface. Guessing sheíll be stalking the pace early and motor past about midway through the stretch. 7-HEY MA sports modest drills, though the last was sharp, but she races for a barn that has been hot for quite a while. Could make an impact in her career debut. 5-BLAZE AWAY N HIDE looks like the best of the speed, at least of those who have raced. She showed little in a state-bred stakes race in Iowa last time out but she did finish second in her three previous starts versus maidens.

Race 4

Interesting race. Itís scheduled for turf but we did get a lot of rain Thursday so canít guarantee this will stay on the lawn and canít guarantee who will stay in the race if it gets moved to the main track. 11-ANDTHETHUNDERROLLS might hold a slight edge on turf. It took him nine races to break his maiden but he came right back in his 10th start to narrowly miss. You can see the progression of him improving in his recent starts. He certainly isnít a strong choice but he is coming into this in the right way. 1-DRAW THE LINE figures big time if this race does get moved to the main track. He broke his maiden the last time he raced here and most of his dirt races were against better rivals. 10-HOLD THE SPICE might not get beat. Heís been in good form in Minnesota and his speed figures suggest that heís the fastest of this. Plus, heís had 10 turf races and he finished third or better in nine of them. 9-CHARLIECANDO races for the first time since May but he has been training forwardly and he will be meeting what appears to be the easiest field of his career.

Race 5

3-SUPER SILVER looks like the one to beat. He was facing far better last year but took a year and a half off before returning to action. He was claimed from this level two races back and proceeded to finish second at a higher level in his first race for this barn. This barn does place them where they should win. Guessing it will happen. 4-WILD FOX is another that has been racing well after an extended vacation. His also lasted about a year and a half. He is quick from the gate. Might try to wire them. 7-DARK WOOD always seems to get a share but he is making his 43rd start with only the two victories. Not sure I could bet him to win but I wouldnít leave him out of the vertical gimmicks.

Race 6

5-JIMMY D looks like the one to beat if this race stays on the weeds but donít like him at all if the race gets moved to the main track. Iím also concerned that he hasnít been a fan of Hawthorneís racing surfaces. He has been in relatively good form and even in last when he faced far tougher, he still managed to split the field. 7-FRONTANA is hard to gauge. He hasnít shown much since getting claimed two races back but he will be facing a much easier group here. Also like that he ran well to finish second, in the mud, the last time he raced here. 9-CHRISTIAN C seeks to keep his win streak alive for his new barn. He won his last three races on the lawn and beat top choice in one of them. His running style is likely to have him close from the start. His new barn often does well with their first-time claims. Could make it four in a row.

Race 7

8-SIMPLE LOGIC wired the field and won by eight the only time he raced in a route on the main track. He appears to have only one in here to beat to the lead. Heís going to be tough to catch if he breaks on top. 1-ANDREAS scored in an open $5k claimer in last. Although he has shown decent speed in the past, most of the time he comes from off the pace. On the positive side, he has a history of doing well on this track and his barn and rider both won their respective titles at the recently-concluded Arlington meet. 3-FULL MAGAZINE could be the sleeper. He might be the quickest of these. He tired a bit to finish second in his last start downstate but he did wire his two previous fields easier. They might have to catch him.

Race 8

8-DOWNTOWNER completes the route-sprint-route cycle. His last win came the last time they stretched him out. Thereís a good chance that will happen again in this wide-open field. 2- GO FOR SHERRIE has been in good form. He was racing in $3200 claimers earlier in the year but heís been knocking heads with runners similar to these recently. 7-DANVILLE has been claimed from his last three races. Heís heading back to the main track in his first start for this barn. Look for him to do his best running late.

Race 9

1-PRESIDENT ELECT could be dropping to score. There should be just enough pace in this race to set up for this geldingís late run if the field stays intact. His chances are helped by the presence of the 10-pound apprentice in his irons. Could fly by them all. 9-KILLEEN rides a three-race win streak. Heíll be pressing the pace, hoping the speed comes back to him. Could edge by late. 12-ROLLS ROYCE DEAL has been competitive all year. Ships in from Canterbury after a brief stop in Iowa. Heíll never be too far back. Could be matching strides with the top pair late.
