Frog Takes "Cover"

It was trip night again at Hawthorne on Sunday, as cover was once again the key to victory. Several odds on favorites bit the dust as aggressive strategy backfired on Special Thankyou in the 2nd,  Andrews Lady in the 3rd,  Mr Shakedown in the 5th,  Victor’s Pursuit in the 6th,  and Commander In Chief in the 8th. If you weren’t covered up for a significant part of the race, you simply were not going to be a winner, save for the impressive effort of Lou Annie. If the weather stays consistent, with no additional moisture, I would believe this trend could hold for the next few nights.

The Frog began the night watching his first play, Duplicate in the 5th,  get a nice trip, grab a lead in the lane, and succumb to the winner who followed his every step.  Our $20 place bet netted us $38. We loved Victor’s Pursuit in the 6th, but his aggressive trip cost both him and our bankroll. Disgo To The Top looked like a winner at the 1/8th pole but went on a brake and eliminated herself and our wagers. On our final wager, our exacta play looked good for awhile until former $4,000 claimer, Macbest, turned our ticket into confetti. For the evening, we wagered $166, and received a return of $38. The Frog went home with his head between his legs contemplating a day off in the Hawthorne pond.

Original Bankroll: $2,000

Total Wagered: $1,270

Total Return: $1,166.80

Current Bankroll: $1,896.80 (thru Sunday, 5/14)

For Tuesday, May 16, 2006

Race One:   This first race is a wide open affair. However, I like Sherrie’s Delight to score his first win of the year in race two after his needed start last week. Let’s hook up four horses in the 1st race with Sherrie’s Delight in the 2nd in some double plays.

$10 Daily Double – TJ’s Little Cammie (1), E Michelle (4), Tattle Tail (5) and Jessaka H (7) in the 1st with Sherrie’s Delight (7) in the 2nd.

Total Wager:  $40

Race Six:  Honor The Cash was a 14-time winner last season and has battled Michigan’s best trotters in recent weeks. I’m looking for a big effort from him tonight. It’s a straight up play and let’s also try a $10 win parlay on a trio of Todd Warren horses.

$20 Win & $20 Place on Honor The Cash (2).

$10 Win Parlay – Honor The Cash (2) in the 6th, back on Rising Debt (1) in the 7th, back on Supreme

Flight N (1) in the 8th.

Total Wager:  $50

Race Seven:  Rising Debt guns for his 6th straight victory. He’s got the rail and back in the same class as he was in his last two wins. Let’s string along in a straight play.

$20 Win & $20 Place on Rising Debt (1).

Total Wager:  $40

Race Eleven:   Katie Belle has enough class to overcome post 10; Mara’s Mojo defeated many of these i
n her last start; and Fox Valley Muffin returns back to the Rucker barn after being claimed two starts back.

Let’s box this trio in an exacta play.

$5 Exacta Box – Mara’s Mojo (5), Fox Valley Muffin (7) and Katie Belle (10).

Total Wager:  $30
