Desperation Sets In -- Frog Comes Out Firing

He was ahead of the game virtually the entire meet, but a recent freefall has left our friendly neighborhood Frog searching for answers. Can he regain his magic the final eight days of the season?

For the most part, the front-end was not the place to be on Thursday night as horses coming from off the pace were the norm. An interesting aspect on the card were the three divisions of the Cicero Pacing Series where we had 11 horses in each division. At Hawthorne, post 11 starts right behind the rail horse, and it’s really a pretty good place to be as we saw Mr Bud Weisar win from that post in race five. Motu Elite Hanover won for the third time in four Hawthorne starts and it won’t be too long before we see him taking on the free-for-allers.

As for the Frog, the black cloud continued to hang over his head. In race two, it looked like we were going to have the trifecta as Ft Apache Annie was the winner and Arizona Helen was right there, but Harmony Oaks Gi Gi made a bobble and it cost us the tri. In race four, Rapid Dialing stunk up the place with a sub-par performance as the overwhelming 1-2 favorite with our hard-earned cash on his nose. The race that really hurt was race five as we nailed the exacta with Mr Bud Weisar and Spyware only to see Spywar taken down for stretch interference. In race seven, Rated Well and Impressive Dancer opened up four lengths on the field at the 1/8th pole and we looked pretty good. However, Macbest closed very strong to squash our payoff. We connected on Motu Elite Hanover but the 1-5 payoff didn’t help us out very much. Finally, in the 10th race, we didn’t get that close as 17-1 Truly Cams Star upset the field. We wagered $364, and received a return of $125.

Race One:   BJB Mac was super impressive in his last win and was on cruise control to boot. He’ll be looking for his 3rd straight win and we will go along for the ride. It’s a straight bet, and we’ll key him in a Daily Double, Pick Three and a win parlay.

$50 Win & $50 Place on (6) BJB Mac

$20 Win Parlay – BJB Mac (6) in the 1st, back on Phagus Hall (6) in the 2nd, back on Major Mackintosh (2) in the 7th, back on Roy Olcott (2) in the 8th.

Miss Cover Girl (6) and Bare Legs (7) in the 3rd.

Total Wager:  $170

Race Two    Phagus Hall closed very fast against a tough winner in his first career start. We’ll bet him straight up in here.

$50 Win & $50 Place on Phagus Hall (6)

Total Wager:  $100

Race Four:   Art’s Son had no chance last time out when he stayed inside and had no room to race in the stretch. A clean trip puts him right there at the wire. It’s a straight up play.

$20 Win & $20 Place on Art’s Son (5).

Total Wager:  $40

Race Seven:    Major Mackintosh had a big close to win in his last start and now he drops a notch and moves inside. We’ll key him in a Pick Four play with Roy Olcott in race eight who will be gunning for his third victory in a row. We’ll single those two and hope for the best.

$10 Pick Three – Major Mackintosh (2) in the 7th, Roy Olcott (2) in the 8th, Power An Glory A (2) and Festivus (8) in the 9th, Dink Adoo (1), Muscles Marinara (5) and Battleshoe Victor (6) in the 10th.

Total Wager:  $60
