Bad Vibes Doom Frog

When the Frog realized that Tuesday was 6/6/06, he should have just stayed on his cozy lilly pad instead of hopping over to Hawthorne. When these selections are made, they are done some 58-72 hours before the actual post time of the races. While it is understood that is how it has to work, for some unknown reason, Tuesday was a particularly crazy evening. The track was fine and the races were won once again using all styles that are available to the drivers. However, the one item that Tony Somone brought up in an article in the program a couple of weeks ago really came into play – that is the visual inspection of the horses on the track scoring down before the race. At least two of my selections, and especially, my big wager, were apparently, not at their best. Ms Maggie in race two looked a little dinky right from the start, and driver Andy Miller did a terrific job just keeping her pacing the entire mile. In race six, Honor The Cash was trying to run the entire mile and driver Todd Warren did a marvelous job just keeping him trotting for 7/8ths of a mile. Hey, that’s racing, but for some reason I should have known to be a little conservative on 6/6/06.

The evening started in terrible fashion as our $112 wager on Ms Maggie went right down the tubes. She never looked right from the start and she appeared to be pacing on eggshells the entire mile. In race five, Independent Babe looked nothing like the filly who raced big in leg one and that wager was a washout also. In race six Buddha Baby ran off to a big victory, but the other half of our wager, Honor The Cash looked terrible and broke in the lane. Our last wager also went bye-bye, as Mack In Black and Incredible Amos failed to fire as expected. We wagered a total of $192, and went home with our head firmly entrenched in our webbed feet.

Original Bankroll: $2,000

Total Wagered: $3,756

Total Return: $3,472.30

Current Bankroll: $1,716.30 (thru Tuesday, 6/6)

For Wednesday, June 7, 2006
Race Two:   Holly’s Lyric raced big from the nine hole last time and will be a factor once again. Giza will be a factor if put in position to do so. Roman Holiday has raced well even though he has had a pair of rough journeys from the outside and he will have to deal with that impediment once again. We will box these three in an exacta play.

$5 Exacta Box – Giza (5), Holly’s Lyric (9) and Roman Holiday (10).

Total Wager:  $30

Race Three:    Supreme Flight N is always a factor in this class and will be in the thick of it once again. Knock On Any Door has had a pair of nice 2nd place finishes and will be in the mix. Shiraz Matazz N is a veteran pacer who looked a lot better last time out. It’s an exacta box play.

$5 Exacta Box – Shiraz Matazz N (3), Knock On Any Door (4) and Supreme Flight N (7)

Total Wager:  $30

Race Eight:   Get Real clicked on all cylinders last week and is set for a repeat performance. Winslow Hustler  was a winner in leg one of this series and certainly figures into the calculations again. Spirit Of Osborne  raced well in Chicago debut and will be even better with the start under his belt. It’s another exacta box play.

$5 Exacta Box – Winslow Hustler (2), Get Real (3) and Spirit Of Osborne (4).

Total Wager:  $30

Race Nine:    Devilfish had a 1:52 qualifier at DuQuoin. Are you kidding me!  I know DuQuoin is fast but that has to be some sort of record. I think we’ll see some action on him. Fifty-Fifty had a big victory last time out and actually drops in class for this battle. We’ll box these two in an exacta. We’ll box these two in an exacta.

$10 Exacta Box – Devilfish (1) and Fifty-Fifty (5).

Total Wager:  $20
