Ron Uchman’s Hawthorne Analysis for Thursday, October 30th

Race 1

7-SHOCK ‘EM ALL seems too obvious. Split much better in his lone race. Gets first Lasix and drops. Graduates. 2-TITIUS was in too tough on turf in last but he ran somewhat more competitively on Poly in his previous two starts. Think he’ll start to come around with the move back to the main track. 5-TURBULENT WAR adds blinkers and stretches out. Hasn’t shown much so far but he figures to display better speed at the distance.

Race 2

5-FLIGHT PATTERN finished second in her turf debut. She tracked an honest pace in that race and raced evenly late. This race could feature a more heated pace. She’s likely to improve with turf experience. Could be the one. 8-BREAK IN led for much of her turf debut and only weakened a bit in the final furlong. She’ll probably be going right for the lead once again. She’s bred to love the lawn so she’s another that should be expected to improve after getting a trip over the course. 1A-GRANDPA’S STAR was well played in her debut but had trouble at the start and never recovered. However, she’s bred to go long and bred to run well on the weeds. Could improve with the stretch out.

Race 3

3-DOC GALORE jumps in class after a winning effort in her first start after getting claimed by this barn but she found herself in a short field without much other speed. Could grab the lead quickly and never look back. 4-ELLIE’S THE BOSS drops into straight claimers for the first time. She showed little in last but was coming off a layoff and making her local debut. Races for sharp connections. Don’t overlook. 2-SUPERSAMBDANCING races for the first time since July. She didn’t show a lot in her last couple of races but love the way she’s been working lately and it has to be noted that she won her first two races when debuting here in the spring.

Race 4

7-DOS DE BASTOS could make it two in a row. He just won at this distance in a race originally scheduled for turf. He’ll be laying right off the pace once again. Could take over when they turn for home. 3-ARCHYBDANCING just missed in his last race and he finished second in his last two. There are quite a few runners in here with good early speed but he won’t back down from a fight. 6-SUMMER IN MONTANA is another on top of his game. He finished behind a couple of these runners in his last but he wasn’t beaten that badly. Seems likely to be right there.

Race 5

4-LIFE AT SEA only split the field in last but he did have some trouble and he was coming off a layoff. Turns back in distance for his local debut. He tired in that last race but runners from this barn usually run better in their second starts after a layoff and, with the turn back in distance, he’s likely to finish with a full head of steam. 1-ILLUSIVE FUGITIVE was in good form at Arlington and won his final face here in the spring. He’s been off for two months but working well in the interim. With his early speed, he’s likely to be right there throughout. 6-HAYQ’S FABLE drops in for a tag. He shows speed at times and comes from out of it at others. Figures either way.

Race 6

9-JAZZ BEAT beat only one in her last at Keeneland but the race was too long for her and she was in against much tougher. Drops back into claimers. She appears to be the best of the speed. A wire to wire win is in the realm of possibility. 2-FONEPFERESH meets claimers for the first time. She’s been in pretty tough since breaking her maiden. The drop to meet easier could be the confidence booster that she needs. 7-THE BEST OPTION is rested and ready. Late runner should get enough pace ahead of her. She has done well off of layoffs. Ran well in every start on this course.

Race 7

10-GANESHA surprised in last but there’s a good chance that she’ll repeat, possibly as the favorite. This race is a sixteenth longer and she drew the 10 hole but she won her last from this post position and she was drawing away from the field in that last race. 8-WILDCAT DEVIL is another that won her last and she won by six lengths and paid over $100 doing it. Not sure where that race came from but a similar effort today would put her squarely in the hunt. 7-SWITCHEN ER UP chased finished second, as the favorite, to top choice in last. She didn’t display her typical good speed in that last race but, if she regains it, she has a good chance to make amends.

Race 8

6-LET’S DO IT goes through long dry spells and he hasn’t show that much since moving back to this barn but one of his races back for them was on Poly and last, which was scheduled for turf, was moved to an off dirt track. He’s a versatile runner on turf; capable of winning on or off the pace. 13-AFRICAN GRAY has to draw into the race but he made up about 12 lengths in his local debut at this level and finished second. This nine-time turf winner meets many that haven’t had nearly the same success but he’s also eight years old and not as fast as he used to be. 8-QUIETDETERMINATION already won six of 11 this year. He got claimed from his last by a barn that does well with first-time claims. Figures prominently. 14-ZIPPIDY DO HAH didn’t fire in his first start of the meet and he’s never really done well on this course but he did win the race prior to last at AP and he was in good form for most of that meet. Can bounce back.

Race 9

3-SMARTY BOY drops a couple of levels. He has spent his career facing better rivals. At this level he might be able to blow them away. 1A-FOXED has to be caught. He tired in last but was in too deep. At this level he could be in full control throughout. 2-THAT’S A KITTEN goes for his third in a row. Late runner meets his best field since breaking his maiden but he could be up to the challenge, especially if top choice faces a lot of early pressure.
