Hawthorne Stables Notes for Friday, November 6, 2009

What a great weekend of racing! We get nine excellent races from Hawthorne, we get a great card from Santa Anita and Hawthorne is represented by a pair of Gold Cup runners in the Breeders’ Cup Marathon as Nite Light and Eldaafer both take to the track.  Also, you can pre-wager the entire Breeders’ Cup card for Saturday today, if you can’t make it out to the races tomorrow.

Today at Hawthorne, we have a fast main track and a good turf course.  We spent 8 hours on the turf last night after races to move the rail out 10 feet to provide a fresh lane for racing, and to perform maintenance on the grass to have it in top condition.

Looking back at yesterday’s card. The track played evenly and the turf did as well.  Jockey Inez Karlsson is riding at Churchill Downs today, so there are a few open mounts on the card that are all live.  First post today is at 2:00 PM with our $1 specials and tomorrow we have a special 12:35 PM early post.

Race 3 - #10 – Tora – With our turf sprints, I love the outside posts much better than the inside.  Tora comes off a claim and has been great at this distance.  I expect her to show speed, especially with Do Get Personal out and she should be a big threat.

Race 9 - #4 – Five Star John – A solid winner against the same last time out, he draws well and gets a return to Hawthorne, where is looks to have taken to the track.  There is pace to chase and I expect another big effort.
