Set the Froggie Free

FROG DOOLEY

For Saturday, May 20, 2006
On Friday, the trend from the previous day prevailed – that is that almost all winning horses were up close in contention at the top of the lane. The best position appeared to be lane two as several winners were either first-over or second-over. The only winner from way back was Easy Road Again in the 6th race, so he is a horse that deserves a second look next time out.

Finally, the Frog will be out of town for a couple days. Although I spend a great deal of life being chased by predator fish, I will be chasing walleye and northern pike up in Wisconsin. Don't worry, my picks are already filed for Sunday and Tuesday, but you're on your own Wednesday and Thursday. My wagers will return on Friday.

As for our wagering, we had a nice night on Friday as we earned a little extra for the fishing trip. In the 1st race we nailed a $20 exacta with Free and Sherri On Ice that put $144 in our pocket. In race four we had a $5 exacta with Festivus and Fox Valley Dante that added $38 to the bankroll. We lost our only wager on the 5th race when Lou Annie faded to fourth. Finally, our $10 exacta box in race seven sent us home happy as the Major Mackintosh and Die Lute exacta paid $88 for $10. On the evening we wagered a total of $140 and got back $270.

Original Bankroll: $2,000

Total Wagered: $1,894

Total Return: $2,076.30

Current Bankroll: $2,182.30 (thru Friday, 5/19)

Race Five:   King Johnny races sparingly, but he is pointed to the top races in his division. Last time out, he raced very well in our free-for-all and in against Prairie Staters tonight, I really like his chances. It will be a straight bet on him.

$20 Win & $20 Place on King Johnny (2).

Total Wager:  $40

Race Seven:  Out On A Bender had had no chance sitting back off a slow half in last week’s start. He should be on the move earlier this time and should have enough to defeat this field. It’s a straight play.

$20 Win & $20 Place on Out On A Bender (6).

Total Wager:  $40

Race Eight:   Black Oliver bested this class last week with a sparkling late close. This race should setup in a similar manner and I’m looking for a repeat victory. No gimmicks, just a straight wager.

$20 Win & $20 Place on Black Oliver (6).

Total Wager:  $40

Race Eleven:   Buckmaker lost to a tough winner in his first start back since invading from The Meadowlands. With a start over our oval, the stars are aligned for him to enter the winner’s circle. Hoping for a little bit of a price for a straight win and place play.

$20 Win & $20 Place on Buckmaker (6).

TOTAL WAGERED: $120
