Sasy Ms Elizabeth Scores in Showtime Deb

STICKNEY, IL  -- Following three starts at Fairmount Park, including a stakes win in the All Sold Out on September 10, Sasy Ms Elizabeth made her first visit to Hawthorne a winning one in the Showtime Deb Stakes.

The 18th running of the Showtime Deb had a full field of 12 with Sasy Ms Elizabeth bet down to the even money favorite at post time.  When the gates sprung, it was E.T. Baird though aboard Richies Sweetheart trying to pull the stakes double as he sent the Rivelli-trained filly to the front end, setting very quick fractions of :21 4/5 for the opening quarter.  She was chased early by Gabio, while Sasy Ms Elizabeth and jockey Emanuel Cosme rated in third.  Covering the half in :45 2/5, Richies Sweetheart held the lead at the top of the stretch but Sasy Ms Elizabeth had drawn close to challenge.  In the stretch, the pair of speedy fillies drew clear from the field with Sasy Ms Elizabeth emerging on top.  She stopped the clock for the three quarters in 1:12.  Richies Sweetheart held second while Cow Catcher rallied late for third.

Sasy Ms Elizabeth returned $4.00, $3.20, and $2.60.  Richies Sweetheart came back $3.60 and $3.20 while Cow Catcher returned $4.00 to show.

Sasy Ms Elizabeth was trained by Leroy Hellman for owners Hellman, Betty and Tom Ninnis.

Jockey Emanuel Cosme got a big effort from Sasy Ms Elizabeth, “It’s all about the horse.  If you’ve got it, you can get it.  I was never really worried even though this filly usually races on the lead.  When I hit the three-eighths pole, she was ready to go.  I just waited a little bit longer.  She just took off from the quarter pole home.”

Trainer Leroy Hellman was asked about Sasy Ms Elizabeth’s mother Denoun N Deverb, “When she came to Hawthorne she won, that’s why I brought this filly here.”

E.T. Baird nearly swept the Saturday stakes, “She broke really good so I figured I might as well take advantage of it.  I thought the winner was the filly to beat so I wanted to get an advantage on her.  She had more longevity, she held on but my filly ran well.”
