Older State-bred Sprinters Round Out Stakes Filled Card

STICKNEY, IL – Saturday at Hawthorne has a pair of Graded Stakes as features with the running of the Grade 3 Sixty Sails Handicap and the Grade 3 Illinois Derby, Presented by Xpressbet as the focus, while two more state-bred stakes are highly competitive on the Saturday undercard.  The Graded stakes will be the focus later in the afternoon on a live broadcast on WGN Television from 5:00 – 6:00 PM Central.  Earlier that afternoon will feature the $100,000 Third Chance Handicap for state-bred female sprinters and the Robert S. Molaro Handicap for state-bred male sprinters.

Going as Race 5 on the Saturday afternoon card is the Third Chance Handicap as a field of nine line up to go three quarters.  Running second in last year’s edition of the Third Chance is morning line favorite Missjeanlouise from the barn of Roger Brueggemann.  Owned by Midwest Thoroughbreds, Inc, Missjeanlouise is a multiple stakes winning mare, taking the Powerless Handicap at Hawthorne the last two falls.  She ran second twice against open company this spring at Oaklawn before making her Hawthorne return.  Missjeanlouise is 3-1 in the morning line and will be ridden by Alex Canchari.

Second choice in the Third Chance at 7-2 is William Stiritz’ Scarlet Power.  Trained by Scott Becker, the four-year-old filly was claimed for $50,000 last spring.  Following a pair of stakes tries, she has won four of her next seven races, most recently winning her 2014 debut at Hawthorne against Optional Claiming Allowance company.  Rafael Hernandez gets the call in the Third Chance.

An interesting runner in the Third Chance is C’Mon Feet.  From the barn of Ray Tracy for owner Pedro Davila, C’Mon was claimed for just $5,000 last fall. In addition to a victory on the day she was claimed, C’Mon feet has rattled off four more wins in a row, defeating Allowance company last fall and starter company twice this spring at Hawthorne.  C’Mon Feet will be ridden by Tim Thornton in the Third Chance and is 6-1 in the morning line.

The second choice in the Molaro comes from multiple Eclipse Award winning owners Ken and Sarah Ramsey and trainer Mike Maker as Mish Mosh is 3-1 in the sprint.  Trained by Mike Maker, Mish Mosh was claimed, claimed away from, then claimed back into the Maker barn and steps up to face stakes company.  A winner eight times for over $250,000 in career earnings, Mish Mosh will be ridden in the Molaro by Rosie Napravnik.
