Hawthorne Race Course Hires New Track Analyst
FEBRUARY 8, 2013 (CHICAGO) Hawthorne Race Course
officials announced today the hiring of
Angela Hermann as track analyst for the 2013 spring race meeting. Hermann will co-host Hawthorne's pre-race handicapping show and
provide analysis before each race. Hermann will also appear on TVG, the nation's leading horse racing
television network, previewing Hawthorne's
races.
We are
thrilled to have Angela at Hawthorne,
Assistant General Manager John Walsh said. She brings a new perspective and energy to our horseplayers... She is
an accomplished handicapper that our fans will learn to trust.
Hermann's
work in the racetrack industry began at Canterbury
Park in Minnesota as a guest services usher. Through nine years and six different
departments, the twenty-six year old worked her way into the role of Track
Analyst at Canterbury
Park. She's held the position at Canterbury
the past two seasons, as well as two years of similar work at Nebraska's Lincoln Race Course and Columbus
Ag Park.
The Minnesota native is
looking forward to the opportunity to promote racing in a new setting. There are many jockeys and trainers at Hawthorne that have made
their mark in this industry, Hermann said. The racing is very competitive,
making it challenging and often very rewarding to horseplayers .I'm really excited about the chance to work
with the guests and staff at Hawthorne, particularly in that the spring meet's
signature Illinois Derby has a new date and a new $750,000 purse, Hermann
said.
Traditionally
a prep race for the Kentucky Derby, this year's 56th running of the
Illinois Derby was excluded from the new points system for the Official Road to the
Kentucky Derby. As such the Illinois
Derby was moved later in the Hawthorne
calendar and its purse was increased by 50%. The 2013 grade 3 Illinois Derby will be run on Saturday, April 20th
on dirt at a mile and an eighth for $750,000
