Hawthorne Backstretch Update, Friday, November 2 – 6:00 AM
On
Tuesday afternoon the request was made for testing to be conducted on all of
the outriders and stable/lead ponies on the backstretch at Hawthorne. By the day we are receiving those results back. We want to thank the trainers, pony people,
exercise riders, jockeys and veterinarians for their assistance and support
through this process as we want to rule out as many possible ways for passing
EHV-1.
Thus
far, we have received results back on 46 of the 79 pony horses and outrider
horses which were tested on the Hawthorne backstretch. We are pleased to report that all 46 tests
have come back negative for EHV-1. These
46 are a combination of personal stable ponies of trainers and lead ponies
owned by independent pony people. We expect
the remaining 33 test results back late Friday evening.
This
morning we will make a determination as to whether or not there are enough lead
ponies that are used during races to allow ponies back in the afternoon or if
we will have to wait one more day. An
announcement on that will be made on the backstretch this morning.
On
another note, we have transitioned 40 horses that tested negative within Barn A
to Barn 8 to resume training as we look to reincorporate those horses back into
the backstretch population. While these
horses have all tested negative, they still remain under the same isolation
requirements as those within Barn A.
As we
have more information, I will send it along, best of luck to everyone on
Breeders’ Cup weekend.
