Flashy American Heads Competitive Sixty Sails
STICKNEY, IL -- The Grade 3, $150,000 Sixty Sails
Handicap drew a very competitive field of eight to contest the 1 1/8 miles on
the Hawthorne dirt main track on Saturday.
The Sixty Sails is part of a 10 race card and one of four stakes races
on Hawthorne’s marquee spring day that also includes the Grade 3, $500,000
Illinois Derby, Presented by Xpressbet. Both the Sixty Sails and Illinois Derby will
be televised live on WGN TV from 5:00 – 6:00 PM Central on Saturday afternoon.
Preston Stables LLC and trained by Ken McPeek is 3-1
morning line favorite Flashy American.
The multiple stakes winning and graded stakes placed mare makes her
second start of 2014. Following a
third-place finish to close out 2013 in the Grade 2 Falls City Handicap, Flashy
American got a four month rest before returning in the Grade 2 Azeri at Oaklawn in her first start of the season. She would finish sixth in that race behind
winner Close Hatches. A seven time
winner on her career with earnings over $425,000, Flashy American will be
ridden in the Sixty Sails by Chris Emigh.
choice at 7-2 in the Sixty Sails is Sonja’s Angel. From the barn of Peter Walder,
Sonja’s Angel has won nine times and takes on stakes-company for the first time
in the Sixty Sails. A winner of two of
her last three starts, Sonja’s Angel ran second against $100,000 Optional
claiming company in her most recent start.

Mark Casse sends out Dixie Strike for owner John
Oxley as this stakes winner looks for her first graded stakes victory. Making three Oaklawn
starts this spring, Dixie Strike ran sixth in the Pippin in her first start of
the year before coming back to run second in the Bayakoa. Her most recent start was a closing
fifth-place finish in the Grade 2 Azeri.
Miguel Mena takes the call aboard Dixie Strike, as she’s 4-1 in the
Martin Wolfson sends out Gamay Noir for
owner Chasing Tails Stables. The
four-year-old filly comes into the Sixty Sails off the first graded stakes
victory of her career as she upset the field in the Grade 3 Rampart in her
last, winning at 49-1. Tim Thornton
takes the call in the Sixty Sails as Gamay Noir is
9-2 in the morning line.
Ana Luisa (Brz) comes from the barn of Todd Pletcher
as she makes her third North American starts.
Following a pair of Group victories in Brazil, she tried the turf in her
first Gulfstream start, closing quickly to finish fourth in the South Beach. She comes off a layoff for the Sixty Sails as
Rosie Napravnik takes the call for this runner who is
5-1 in the morning line.
