Desperation Sets In -- Frog Comes Out Firing
He was ahead of the game virtually the entire meet, but a recent freefall has left our friendly neighborhood Frog searching for answers. Can he regain his magic the final eight days of the season?
For the most part, the front-end was not the place to be on Thursday night as horses coming from off the pace were the norm. An interesting aspect on the card were the three divisions of the Cicero Pacing Series where we had 11 horses in each division. At Hawthorne, post 11 starts right behind the rail horse, and it’s really a pretty good place to be as we saw Mr Bud Weisar win from that post in race five. Motu Elite Hanover won for the third time in four Hawthorne starts and it won’t be too long before we see him taking on the free-for-allers.
As for the Frog, the black cloud continued to hang over his head. In race two, it looked like we were going to have the trifecta as Ft Apache Annie was the winner and Arizona Helen was right there, but Harmony Oaks Gi Gi made a bobble and it cost us the tri. In race four, Rapid Dialing stunk up the place with a sub-par performance as the overwhelming 1-2 favorite with our hard-earned cash on his nose. The race that really hurt was race five as we nailed the exacta with Mr Bud Weisar and Spyware only to see Spywar taken down for stretch interference. In race seven, Rated Well and Impressive Dancer opened up four lengths on the field at the 1/8th pole and we looked pretty good. However, Macbest closed very strong to squash our payoff. We connected on Motu Elite Hanover but the 1-5 payoff didn’t help us out very much. Finally, in the 10th race, we didn’t get that close as 17-1 Truly Cams Star upset the field. We wagered $364, and received a return of $125.
