Close Doesn't Count For Frog

FROG DOOLEY

It was another mixture of winners on the Sunday night card at Hawthorne. What was perhaps unusual was that for a series of races we had a come from behind winner, then a wire to wire winner, then another closer, then another front-stepper, then another closer. Thus, for anyone looking for an early trend was really out of luck. Two performances of note were the impressive victory of Illini Monstermack in his first start for trainer Scott Nance and the return to form of Buckmaker, who looked super in victory after making breaks in his two previous starts.

Unfortunately, it was another rough night for the Frog. It was another case of oh so close, but no cigar. In our first wager, we had the second half of the double, but the longest shot on the board, Bramblerose, upset the applecart. In race four, Earlivic tried hard, but got roughed up just a bit too much from the nine hole. Chicky Dee got caught speeding in race five and got caught just before the wire. In the 6th race we singled Hi-Tri and she won easily, however, we lost our Pick Three play when Tabernash’s late close fell just short. We cashed a small place ticket on Tabernash in race seven that earned us $70. Finally, in race nine, we had Buckmaker on top, but our other two horses where nowhere in sight. For the evening, we wager $330 and got back just $70.

For Tuesday, June 13, 2006
Race One:   RH Bittersweet was a strong winner last time out and will be right there again against this similar group. Almostunbelievable has been very impressive in his three Hawthorne starts and will probably race impressively once again. We’ll box these two in an exacta.

$20 Exacta Box – Almostunbelieveable (2) and RH Bittersweet (6).

Total Wager:  $40

Race Three:    Richie Cunningham raced strong when dropped into maiden claimers and it looks like it will be graduation night this evening. Let’s make it a straight up play.

$50 Win & $50 Place on Richie Cunningham (4).

Total Wager:  $100

Race Five:    Justina Jones will be in the thick of it throughout starting from the rail. Ms Maggie was a huge disappointment as the 4-5 favorite last time out. She has plenty of ability and let’s hope Andy can let her go at full tilt for this battle. We’ll box these two fillies in an exacta.

$20 Exacta Box – Justine Jones (1) and Ms Maggie (4).

Total Wager:  $40

Race Seven:   Fluff O Macktic was slipped into leg two of this series and she walked away with an easy win as the owners were holding their breath she wouldn’t get claimed. I like her to win it all. We will play her straight up and single her in the Pick Four.

$50 Win & $50 Place on Fluff O Macktic (3).

$2 Pick Four – Fluff O Macktic (3) in the 7th, Rising Debt (5) in the 8th, Sporty Success (3), Chrismar’s Joy (4) and Talking To Angels (5) in the 9th, Gridiron (1), Sparks Of Gold (3) and Let Me Try (4) in the 10th.

Total Wager:  $118

TOTAL WAGERED: $298
